The Role of
Specialised Surgical Centres
of Excellence
in Reducing Waiting List Times
By greater Efficiency and
Quality
Using the Model of The British
Hernia Centre
Presented at the
Conference "Waiting for
Surgery"
London, October, 2002
Under the auspices of
The Royal College of Surgeons
of England

A study based upon 12 years of experience as a
highly
specialised surgical centre
Presented by Dudley Rogg, Director of The British
Hernia Centre
Conclusions:
Highly focused specialisation allows for greatly improved
quality of work, safety and efficiency as well as a much
accelerated ability to improve, devise and develop new
techniques of surgery. By following this now proven model,
significant savings could be made in surgical waiting list times
as well as in overall costs.
