The Lichtenstein Repair for Groin Hernias
Summary
Lichtenstein described a tension-free onlay of
mesh less than two decades ago.
Some surgeons misunderstood his concept.
The technique is described as suited to all types of groin hernia
- large or small, complex or straightforward -
and essential components including
local anaesthesia, immediate ambulation and same day discharge,
each contributing to the overall success.
