Pre-Peritoneal Mesh Repair
of
Recurrent Inguinal Hernia,
Long-Term Follow-Up
At The British Hernia Centre
Presented at the
International Hernia
Conference
"Hernia in the 21st Century"
Toronto, Canada, June 2000
Under the auspices of
The American Hernia Society
and
The European Hernia Society

A study based upon the follow-up of a significant
series
of
cases of RECURRENT INGUINAL HERNIA successfully
repaired at The British Hernia Centre, of which 61%
were
bi-lateral or multi-recurrent and with high risk of
further recurrence
Conclusions:
Major complications were ZERO
After the earliest cases - performed in the first six months, the
recurrence
rate was 1.25%
Pre-peritoneal mesh repair by experienced operators gives greatly
superior results
to the commonly used anterior approach and is the procedure of
choice
for
complex, bilateral or multi-recurrent inguinal hernia.
