Tension-free mesh repair of umbilical hernia
as a day case using local anaesthesia

 

Results:

There were no major complications.
There were no cases of severe postoperative pain
There were no recurrences
All patients considered the result cosmetically acceptable

Conclusions:

This open 'tension-free' mesh technique is acceptable to all umbilical hernias
with minimal morbidity and extremely low risk of recurrence.
Admirably suited to local anaesthesia and ambulatory surgery
in the majority of patients.
