Tension-free mesh hernia repair: review of
1098 cases using local anaesthesia in a day unit

Conclusions:

The major advantages of the tension-free mesh repair under local anaesthesia are
simplicity compared with the Shouldice method,
substantial cost savings
and very low rates of recurrence, infection and other complications.
Early return to work, office and manual, is practicable within 7 days and 14 days respectively.
These results are more effectively achieved within a unit dedicated to hernia repair.
